Step #1
FFL Minimum Requirements
The requirement for a person to obtain a Federal Firearms License have been put in place to ensure public safety. Whether or not you agree with the rules or the reasons for them being enforced is not relevant to this topic. What we do want to show you are the basic minimum requirements a person is required to meet before they can proceed with the Federal Firearms application process. Here is a quick rundown of those requirements before the government will permit a person to maintain a FFL:
- An established place of business
- Minimum age of 21 years old
- You are not convicted of a crime, a fugitive, user of “controlled substances”, illegal alien, are a mental patient, have a dishonorable military discharge or have a court restraining order
- Has not willfully violated any federal firearms laws or regulations
- Has a place in either a business or a home that is in a permanent structure so you can conduct a business
The applicant that is completing The Federal Firearms License Application will also need to certify that they will be abiding by all state and local laws. They will further agree that they will not conduct any business until this requirement has been proven. It shall also be required that you notify law enforcement officials that you are applying for a FFL license.

Step #2
The applicant will be required to complete ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms) form # 7 which is not available to be downloaded online. What this means is that you cannot go to any government website and download the form.
To receive the Federal Firearms License application and the appropriate and authorized fingerprint cards you will be required to use snail mail and you can start that slow process by contacting the Distribution Center Order Form at (703) 455-7801. They will then mail you a packet through the U.S. Postal system.
Step #3
At the time of typing this article out the law requires that a person must submit to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) regional office the appropriate form, filing fee, current photograph and acceptable fingerprints. The mailing address the applicant can then send the completed paperwork to is: BATFE, P.O. Box 2994, Atlanta, Georgia. WHEN you have questions feel free to try and get an answer at 404-417-2750. The BATFE will then have 60 days to approve or reject your application.
This step is what always get us riled up because this is the step that gets used without any emotion by the Federal Government. If you missed something, or if you filled out something wrong, your entire application is then kicked back, rejected. You will then not pass go, not collect $200.00 and you get to start the ENTIRE process over once again. Since you are dealing with a government agency it is suggested you get some help before attempting to submitt your Federal Firearms License application. A lawyer would be a great place to start, but they are not really needed yet. (Give it a few years)
