FFL Application

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) is the approving governmental agency for applications to get a Federal Firearms License (FFL).  The are certain requirements that a person must meet to be eligible to be granted permission by the ATF to receive a FFL.  Those requirements for an FFL application are listed very briefly below.

  • The age at time of application is 21 years or older;
  • The applicant is not prohibited from shipping, receiving or possessing firearms or ammunition;
  • The applicant has not willfully violated the Gun Control Act (GCA);
  • The applicant has not willfully failed to disclose material information or willfully made false statements concerning material facts in connection with the application;

  1. the business (personal transactions also are also considered “the business”) conducted under the license is not prohibited by State or local law in the place where the licensed premise is located;
  2. within 30 days of approval of the application the business will comply with all State and local requirements applicable to the conduct of the business;
  3. that NO business will be conducted under the license until the requirements of State and applicable local laws have been met;
  4. the applicant for the FFL has sent or delivered a form to the chief law enforcement officer where the premises are located notifying the officer that the applicant intends to apply for a license;
  5. secure gun storage or safety devices will be available at any place in which firearms are sold under the license to the persons who are not licensees (“secure gun storage or safety” defined in 18 U.S.C. 921 (a) (34)
